What this site shows

iwtlife.com displays challenges created in the IWT — Japanese Walking app. For each participant, a challenge page shows a self-chosen nickname and a single aggregated result (for example a distance or a number of walks). Nothing more.

• No routes, positions, heart rates, times of day or walk history — ever.
• Health data stays on each participant's own phone; it is never uploaded to this site.
• Private group challenges are excluded from search engines and reachable only with their join code (and PIN, when set).

Identifiers

Participants are identified internally by a pseudonymous key derived with a keyed hash on our servers. The underlying identifier never leaves the server and cannot be reversed from anything the browser receives.

Cookies and local storage

• PIN cookie — set only after you enter a correct challenge PIN, so you don't have to re-enter it. Functional, per challenge, expires after 30 days.
• "This is me" choice — if you mark your own row on a leaderboard, that choice is stored in your browser's local storage only. It never reaches our servers.
• No analytics or advertising cookies. No third-party trackers.
• Visit counting — we count how many pages are read, on our own server and without a cookie. What is stored is the page, the country and the site you followed a link from. Your IP address and browser are used once, to work out whether two page views are the same reader on the same day, and are never stored; the key that says "same reader" is a one-way hash that changes every midnight, so nothing can be followed from one day to the next. Nothing is shared with anyone else.
• The download buttons — pressing an App Store or Google Play badge adds one to a counter, along with which page you pressed it on and the same country as above. Nothing about you is recorded, and you are not followed onwards: the count ends the moment you leave this site.
• The merch page embeds our shop, operated by Spreadshirt — content loaded there comes from their servers and is covered by their privacy policy.

Leaving a challenge and deletion

If you leave a challenge in the app, your name is anonymized and appears as "Left participant" here at the next sync — your result remains so standings aren't distorted, but your identity is removed. Our mirror database removes deleted and anonymized data on every sync; it never keeps old copies.

For any data request — access, correction, deletion — contact us and we'll handle it. Reports of inappropriate names can be submitted directly on any challenge page.

The contact form

What you write on the contact page — your name, your message, and an email address if you choose to give one — is stored on our own server so we can act on it. Nothing else is recorded with it: no IP address, no browser details. Your email is used only to reply to you, is never added to any mailing list, and is never passed to anyone else. Messages are deleted once they have been dealt with, and you can ask us to delete yours sooner.

Every message is read; not every message is answered. Leaving the email field empty means we have no way to reply, which is a perfectly good way to send a suggestion.

Prize claims

If you win a prize in an official challenge, you can claim it by submitting your name, email and shipping address. This is entirely voluntary, the details are used only to deliver your prize, and they are deleted once the prize has been shipped and received.

Fair play

Results are calculated on each participant's own device and are self-reported. Leaderboards are therefore not verified rankings. For official challenges with prizes, top results are reviewed before any prize is awarded, and final standings are confirmed no earlier than one day after the challenge ends.
